Chris Newton, MD Memorial Lectureship – Excellence in Education and Diabetes Care Award

Dr. Newton Award

It has been about a month since our colleague Chris Newton passed away unexpectedly. Chris was an expert in Type 1 diabetes, both as a patient and as an Endocrinologist. The Endocrinology faculty have proposed the best to way to honor Chris would be to have a lectureship established in his name for Grand Rounds, so that once a year an international expert in diabetes visits our campus for a few days and gives a Grand Rounds on the cutting edge of diabetes care.

We plan to send out the announcement of the “Chris Newton, MD – Excellence in Education and Diabetes Care Award” to all other academic health centers with diabetes programs  The aim is to continue promoting the values that Chris lived for; to improve the lives of people with diabetes. The first lectureship will be May 25, 2017.

Any gifts in Chris’ memory should go to support this award. There is an attached donation form that you can use to provide funds for this war in Chris’s memory. Send these to Ken Cusi, Chief of Endocrinology.

As we celebrate freedom this weekend with friends and family, let us always remember the fight for our patients to be free of disease, to be free of the worry that at any time their world could come crashing down. Chris worked hard to give his patients this freedom, and we honor that.
