Jamie Beth Conti, M.D. Named Chief

Adult Cardiovascular Medicine

Dear Colleagues,
It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Jamie Beth Conti, M.D. to the position of Chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine.  Dr. Conti received her B.A. in Biology from Harvard University and her M.D. Degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine.  She received her internal medicine residency training at Georgetown University Hospital and Emory University Hospital after which she completed cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology fellowships at the University of Florida.  Dr. Conti joined the faculty of the University of Florida in 1994 and is currently Professor of Medicine and holds the American Heart Association/Palm Beach-Martin County Chapter Teaching Chair in Cardiology.  She has been the Interim Chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine since June 1, 2008, and in this capacity, she has done an outstanding job.

Dr. Conti has had an outstanding academic career to date.  She is recognized as a thought leader in her primary subspecialty area of cardiac electrophysiology and from 2005 until 2008 she served as Director of the Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Section in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at UF.  She is an outstanding and award-winning teacher.  In 1999, she received the prestigious American College of Cardiology Proctor Harvey Teaching Award.  This national award is presented by the 35,000 member professional society only to a very few candidates who have demonstrated teaching skills exemplified by the namesake of the award.  She has held leadership positions in the American College of Cardiology, the Heart Rhythm Society, and the American Heart Association.  Dr. Conti also has an excellent record in clinical research where she has been the principal investigator or co-principal investigator on numerous clinical trials.  Her clinical and research activities have resulted in over 100 publications.

Dr. Conti's reputation extends well beyond the borders of the state of Florida.  She is on the Editorial Board of The Journal of the American College of Cardiology, The American Heart Hospital Journal, Critical Pathways in Cardiology, and Clinical Cardiology.  She is also the Associate Editor of the American College of Cardiology Extended Learning Publication and serves as a reviewer for 12 additional  peer-reviewed scientific journals in her areas of expertise.

Dr. Conti has also made significant contributions to the success of the nationally-ranked Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Florida.  She has served as Director of the Fellowship Training Program in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and as Director of the Fellowship Training Program in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology.  Under her guidance and leadership, the Clinical Electrophysiology Section at this institution has generated a national reputation and has developed a number of innovative clinical programs.

Dr. Jamie Conti has demonstrated a remarkable record of continued exemplary academic achievements since joining the faculty of the University of Florida College of Medicine in 1994.  She has developed nationally-recognized programs in cardiac electrophysiology, she has demonstrated excellence in clinical care, she has served in numerous leadership positions in the leading professional organizations in cardiology, she has maintained an active and successful clinical research program with a strong track record of scholarly productivity, and she is an award-winning teacher.  I hope that you will join me in congratulating Dr. Conti on this milestone achievement which she so richly deserves.
